Morning all.
I only posted yesterday – if you’ve not read it yet go back and have a look as it’s a good one and you should go and read Jon’s post too but I had to post again as there is some exciting news.
The first thing is that my dad was on Radio York yesterday! If you go to the iPlayer and find Julia Booth’s Breakfast show from Radio York you can listen again. It’s about 1hr and 5 minutes in. Dad’s on for the next 10 weeks (well, 9 now).
Hearing my dad on the radio and listening to a few podcasts and vodcasts recently I have decided it’s time I started podcasting. I wasn’t really sure what to talk about so I decided to give you a bit of insight into my life as a self-employed web worker. I’ve attached the podcast. You should have a listen. This one is pretty short so you’re not wasting much of your life. Some parts are pretty quiet so you might need to turn your speakers up. In it you basically get to hear the sound of my working day… enjoy!

Andy – I have to say Dad was more interesting than your working day
(What are podcasts and vodcasts?)

A podcast is like a broadCAST but designed for iPODS (and other mp3 players and computers and phones etc but podmp3phoncomputercast didn’t take off)
They did go through a phase of being called netcasts but that didn’t last.
A vodcast is just a video version. Also – there’s VLOGs which are Video Logs (like Blogs but with video)
Are you still reading?
No… didn’t think so.

I was chosen to explain the what Podcasts & Vodcasts are to the Church congregation. Once I’d finished, I don’t think folks could remember their own names, let alone what a Vodcast is…

Thank you – I did read it all.
Er …… what’s the difference between an ipod and an mp3player?
Do you think you could start a FAQ for dummies? Make up a few questions that you think I might ask so I don’t have to confess my ignorance
Or each time anyone mentions anything on the blog that they/you think i might not understand they/you could just put a brief and clear explanation in brackets.

Andy that cracked me up so much!!
Also, I can’t believe Lily Allen fuels such brilliant design work…how the heck does that work?

Mum – there already is an FAQ for Dummies. It’s called Google.
iPod is a brand of mp3 player. Like the Hoover is a brand of vacuum cleaner… It (the iPod not the Hoover) is made by Apple (the company not the fruit) and lots of people think they are good. They have been pretty much replaced by the iPhone now though! Which is a phone. A phone is a device used to talk to people…
Susie – thank you. I have to admit that was my intention. And Lily is a great inspiration to me. That’s why she is sat in the corner of my office singing. It helps me work. Next week Lil’s off though – I let her do her own thing every now and again – I’m trying to get Saul Ashby to deputise for her but he’s not returning my calls.
Probably because I don’t have his number so I’m just calling “Saul, Saul, can you hear me? Saul?” to no avail.

Or because he’s in my cupboard surrounded by toy soldiers.
